Casa Zen I

Revival of an old forgotten pearl

This former 93m2 small, old farm house was build in 1937. The natural materials , such as thick natural stone walls offered perfect conditions for an ecological low energy refurbishment.

The renovation was carried out in 2009 when the home changed owner. As the original roof was in very bad conditions and the new owner wanted high ceilings, a curved wooden roof was the perfect solution for this purpose.

The walls and the roof have been insulated with 16 cm external thermal insulation system (ETICS).

Indigos plants such as succulents have ben planted on roof an terrace  in order to improve the energy performance of the little house.

Note : Green roofs are an excellent alternative to tiles as they are living plants that keep a “body temperature” the roof does never overheat. While plants keep a roof temperature on max 30ºC, tiles can reach 90º and more in the sun.
